Is it worth me getting Blu-ray now, if my Plasma is not Full HD?

I have a 50" Panasonic Viera Plasma (1366x768) it is a HD Panel, but not Full HD.
I am wondering, if I purchase a Blu-ray player...am I going to be satisfied with the picture. Would I see a difference in picture quality if sitting almost 4m (13ft) away.I do know how Blu-ray players works, but in the short term...will I get a better picture quality with Blu-ray now, rather than my normal DVD/Harddrive player?

You can answer this yourself.

Do you have HD service for television? You probably also have the standard def version of ABC, CBS, NBC, etc.

In the evening when the TV shows are HD, try toggling between the HD and standard def version of a show in the middle of the show.

Do you see a difference?

BluRay will be a bit better than the HD TV channels as these are sometimes compressed by your cable/sat company - but it gives you the rough idea of what up-converted standard def vs High Def looks like on your TV.

"Worth it" is between you and your bank account. But BluRay Players are about $170 now so I feel the upgrade is no longer a huge dollar commitment.
